Not exactly to my surprise, several insurgent groups have become active in this country and they are smart enough to let the Elchinian forces take my head, then depart the country before becoming more active. Their eventual goal was to be the ruler of Makeb, exactly as I had done all those decades ago. For now, they would mostly remain in the shadows and do no more than announce their presence to the Makebian people, nothing more, nothing less. Although they were eyesores, I had bigger fish to fry. As everything does, time continues to flow.
This brings us back to the present time where I am nothing more than a lonely old man, sitting on a chair waiting for something to happen. The date is June 20th, and my commanding officer has been assassinated by one of our own and it turns out he was working undercover for one of the insurgent groups. Ah well, I thought to myself, I suppose this just gets us to the conclusion faster. With him out of the way, it will only take a few more days for the Elchinian dogs to get here. In the meantime, I took the liberty of hiring an anonymous group to do a little special present for when the forces eventually crushed my soldiers and that would only leave me.
During all this time, I had housed some of the most loyal subjects that had been by my side for easily over three decades. These were the ones who saw the progress that I had made towards bringing Makeb to its absolute height and also to where it is now. They knew, they understood, they went through all of that with me through my many terms as president. I have other plans for them, but now they may reside in my mansion to avoid the hard reality out there in the rest of my capital city.
In but a day, the Elchinian forces made their advancement all the way to my front door and I practically let Imogen allow a few of them inside. Unfortunately, in the wake of everything, I forgot that some of my most loyal soldiers were going to cause a ruckus and make the mansion an active warzone for but a moment as they were killed mercilessly. It was a true shame that Imogen got caught in the crossfire and passed away shortly after.
After that little incident, the few that were inside instructed the others to enter just in case there were any more stunts that I have in store for them. Of course I don’t, but they did not care either way. It made no difference to me as I am prepared for them all the same. It appears as though I had even more loyal subjects that were willing to get involved even in this mess. I had lots of security cameras in my room and I saw many of my staff try to slow down the soldiers as much as they could.
Poor fools, some were pushed away, some were ordered to move out of the way, and some unlucky ones were even shot on the spot. The soldiers slowly make their way to my room all the while making a mess of everything. Once they finally got here, they made no effort to waste any time.
“By the decree of the Elchinian government, you, who has become an enemy of the great state of Elchin by being involved in various terrorist acts, are sentenced to death!” The commander of the platoon shouted at me.
“Oh? And what of it? You may be able to kill me physically, but you have no idea what I mean to this country. I would have been able to keep it for a few more years had all of you not interfered and gotten so greedy.” I shouted as futilely as an old man does.
“Prepare your prayers, you will die for your sins against the country of Elchin.” Another young man spoke up.
“Yea? Well, I have a couple more surprises for all of you since you took your sweet time to get here. Did you notice, on your way to my room, that I had various cameras installed?”
“What’s your point?” The commander asked slightly curious.
“Well, ever since you have entered into this building, the cameras have been recording and uploading all you have done in my mansion to the internet, even now you are being watched,” I said as I pointed to the 3 cameras that were in my room.
“You’re bluffing.” The commander said with a cold tone.
“Try me, I’m an old man with a power complex at the end of my rule. Do you think I wouldn’t dare? Elchin already has so many enemies, do you think they will not suffer any international backlash from these clips?”
“Nice try, but the internet is quick to forget the human atrocities they see on a daily basis and in a couple of months, they will forget all about Makeb.”
“I do have one more surprise left for you, gentlemen,” I said as I pushed a button and out came some of my most loyal citizens who have been with me since the beginning.
“Please spare him, sirs, please, he has done so much for us and if you have a heart please forgive him.” A random old man screamed.
“Even if he has caused some harm to some of your citizens, it was the only response to something that you did. Please think about this.” This time a random lady in a walker said.
There were many more who tried to convince the soldiers that killing me was not the right decision to choose. However, the soldiers were having none of it and asked the group which mostly consisted of elders to stand down. These elders did not pay any attention to such words and kept pleading with them. The reason that the soldiers did not immediately take them out was that they now knew about the cameras that were broadcasting everything onto the internet.
“Please, elders, we are only doing as our superiors asked of us. Do not make this any harder for us than it has to be.” The commander asked gently.
This sentiment was repeated by every soldier that was present, but no matter what, the group of elders just stayed where they were, between them and me.
“How dare you use human meat shields against us, Kannon.” The commander scorned.
“It did not seem to bother you much when you were plowing through some of my other officials and house maintenance workers, now did it? I’ve grown tired of this. Either you get through the group of elders with force, or leave. Just remember, everything you do will be seen by tens of millions of people all over the world.” I scoffed at them.
“How dare you do such a despicable thing. You will regret this, Kannon.” A soldier shouted in contempt.
“Enough of this! Soldiers, aim for Kannon and don’t stop until he is dead.” The commander ordered his men. Then he shouted, “I will not tolerate disobedience!”
The soldiers that were under his command immediately aimed for Kannon, but that brief moment of hesitation that all of them had was enough time for the elders to traverse the room and into their personal bubbles, doing whatever they could to stop the death of their beloved hero, which was me.
In a nutshell, elders were bashed in the head, some were shot, some pushed away, and in the end, a bullet that was shot from the commander’s small handgun was the one that ended my life.
With their task completed, the soldiers of Elchin made their way to the sea where all of them ended up going home. Now, not a single Elchinian soldier was left inside Makeb’s borders. The elders that were in the room all rushed to the corpse that used to be one of the most popular politicians the world over. All of them were sobbing to no avail that their hero was no more. It would be a few days before the news of the death of Kannon reached the people of Makeb and to the rest of the world.
In but a few more days’ time, several insurgent groups made their way to the mansion and fought it out between each other to see who would get to control Makeb from now on. With all of this happening, Makeb was now effectively a war-torn country once. As if all of president Kannon’s contributions to Makeb have all been for naught because in a way, it was really all for naught since the people of Makeb were once again fearing for their lives as they had done before he became their leader.
As for the soldiers who assassinated president Kannon, they were heralded as heroes upon their return to the Elchinian people. That was not the case for whoever saw the broadcast of what they had done to the poor citizens of Makeb, and an international backlash ensued. However, after just a few days of this international unity, the issue was forgotten and it was as if what they had done during their campaign in Makeb and all of their wrongdoings were forgiven all the same.
