Adan Cynbald
My ribs are cracked. My legs are broken. My skin is frozen and my heart is about to give up… I am dying.
Those three words bounced around in my head. A truth so unavoidable that it made me wonder if it was worth fighting.
I am dying. I am dying. I am dying… But who cares?
As I lay here in my final moments I think back to my life and I can only apologize to those I love. It appears I won't be able to give my mother and younger brother a luxurious life after all.
I laid on the frozen ground preparing to face my death. A soft, but chilled voice dove into my conscious and broke my internal monologue.
“Of all the possibilities…”
My eyes were forced open from the pain of her foot nudging my side. Although blood loss caused my vision to be blurry, various lights and colors merged together to reveal the visage of a goddess.
“Do you truly wish to die in this heat forsaken place?”
Her voice, which had an allure which compelled me to use whatever strength I had left to reply in a lighthearted tone.
“Wouldn't it be odd to consider the problem not to be my death but rather its location?”
She chuckled at this.
“That is a surprisingly cool thing to hear from a Rekka”
“ From your tone, I’m guessing that you don't identify as a Rekka.”
In terms of final moments, having a conversation with such a stunning beauty would definitely not be the worst.
A trace of humor could be heard in her reply.
“I highly doubt you’ll be able to take me on… in your current state.”
“Why do you assume I'll try to fight you?”
On ordinary terms, I probably would have tried. However, in my current condition,it was impossible. There was also the fact that any loyalty i’d I had for the nation was long gone at this point.
“Wouldn't it be bizarre to assume that the prince of a kingdom wouldn't?”
I laughed but it quickly died down as I felt my ribs move with every harsh exhale.
“To think that the first time I would be recognized as a prince without my emblem would be minutes before my death...
Fate truly is cruel
.”
My last words thumped against my eardrums as I felt her lean closer towards me.
“Aden, the Spare Prince of the Rekka, would you like to overturn it?”
I hated that nickname. It was usually enough to drive me into madness, but when it came from her lips, it seemed like music to my ears.
“Overturn what?”
A low spine chilling giggle seeped from her mouth.
“Fate. If you come with me, I can promise you that much. Come with me, Aden. Throw off Your royal shackles and become mine.”
She could have been lying for all I knew. The icy temptation in her voice accompanied by the odd lightness I was feeling combined into a strong desire to agree. Using all the strength in my broken body, I forcibly converted my last few breaths into two seconds worth of speech.
“...I...agree.”
“Aden...No, Sora. You will not be allowed to regret this.”
