“Be the order of the Great Director, you’re under arrest.” At those words, the three men who stood behind the boss of the group stepped forward.
Godan waited for them, observed as they cautiously surrounded him. One man twisted his wrist with weapon in hand, a sign of being ready to attack. Like Godan expected he was the first one to lead the charge, dashing forward with the metal bat above his head. Godan followed the bat with his gaze as it moved closer and closer to his head. With one swift move he deflected the bat and whispered “Die” as he brought his longsword down.
The man who didn’t show any sign of fear had it all written on his face as he watched the blade move toward his chest and the cold stare of his opponent. The other watchman jumped in and blocked the attack with his bat. He stood still after bracing the impact of Godan’s mighty swing. As he took a look at his weapon, he became concerned about their target. With just one swing Godan’s sword was able to cut half an inch into a metal bat.
“He can cut metal?” The watchman struggled to hold the grip on his bat as Godan tried to overwhelm him. With a loud thud, Godan got struck in the back of his head with a metal bat. His vision quickly became a blurry mess, unable to feel if he stood straight or not, as if he were drunk.
In all his experiences in battle, Godan never fought against a group that was coordinated and had each other's backs. He always faced slaves who only thought about themselves. This was much different.
Sloppily swinging his sword, he attempted to cut off the hand of a watchman who attacked him, but another man quickly jumped in to block the attack, giving the third man space to land a solid hit to Godan’s knee, crushing it into bits. Godan let out a painful groan and swung his longsword again in a wide arc that would reach everyone’s neck. Except no one was close enough.
With his back turned against two of them, he swung forward at the first guy he saw. Before his sword could reach him, he was struck in the shoulder and ribs. They barely healed after the fight against Simon, breaking yet again as they were weakened.
“God damn flies!” Shouted Godan as he barely stood on his two legs, stumbling to the sides as he swung his longsword, yet not losing any bit of his strength. The watchmen were able to land a hit from time to time, but it was with risk; each of Godan’s attempts to cut them was close, yet it didn’t reach its mark.
Even though the fight barely started, the watchmen were feeling tired after constantly swinging a heavy metal bat, while injured Godan wasn’t exhausted at all. That’s when one of them slipped. His movement got slower as he tried to hit Godan in the back, and the blood sprayed as Godan cut across the man’s right arm. The watchman fell to the ground with a scream as his arm trembled, lots of blood flowing through the wound.
Even when their comrade was injured, they did not falter. As Godan was able to land a strike, the second man saw a chance to break Godan’s only wrist, shattering his bones, and making him drop the longsword.
“You bastard!” Godan was quick to raise his arms at the attacker. As he swung them at the man, they suddenly halted. Chains appeared from the ground and wrapped around his arms, holding his attacks away from the watchman.
“With the power granted by the Great Director, I won’t let you hurt my men anymore.” Both hands of the watchmen captain were pointed toward Godan as he used a gate to pin him in place.
“Another guy who brags about his powers.” Godan snickered and, with a jerk of his arm, he was able to break the chains and free his left arm. He used his free arm to destroy the other chain, clearly making the captain sweat. Just one use of the gate and holding it against a monster like Godan already strained him.
“I don’t know who that Great Director is, but I’ll make sure to find him and rip his head off.” Godan mumbled out as he slowly made his way toward the head of the group. The two watchmen kept their distance but followed right behind Godan. Blood was dripping to the ground from Godan’s head as he wiggled to the sides, somehow able to still be on his two feet.
Suddenly, his left arm was pulled to the ground by another chain. As he was preparing to jerk his arm and break the chain, one of the watchmen took the opportunity and swung the metal bat right at Godan’s chin. Slowly losing the grip of his consciousness, Godan began to lose his sanity, his eyes looking wilder. Seeing the bat flying in his direction, he opened his mouth and caught it between his teeth. The man’s shock was written all over his face, especially how wide his eyes opened to make sure if what he saw was real. With one free arm, Godan threw a punch at the watchman before any of them could react, sending the man tumbling away.
With just one step forward, he was able to break the chain, his eyes on the captain of the squad. The man finally picked up his bat and ran toward Godan. He was stressed but concentrated on his task. As he swung the metal bat at running Godan, his eyes flickered for a second. It was enough for Godan to realize that the other man was right behind him. The man suddenly stopped and, while standing on one leg, spun around the tip of his longsword, moving in a wide arc toward his target. The watchman had jumped and was in the air with no way to evade the attack. Godan effortlessly cut the man in half from hip to hip. Even in death, the watchman continued his duty, and before he could faint and wait for the gates of heaven to open, he swung his bat one last time.
As the metal bat made its contact, Godan’s skull cracked in one place, his head spinning even faster, making him vomit as the body flew past him. As he was losing his footing and about to fall flat face to the ground, another blow was delivered. A metal bat straight to his chin made his brain hit his own skull, getting knocked out before even touching the ground.
The squad’s captain breathed heavily as he stood right by Godan’s unconscious body. Seeing one of his men's death was tempting him to bash his head until it was a bloody mush. Tightening the grip on his bat, he was about to swing. He faltered as he heard painful groans that were coming from his injured squadmates.
“Death isn’t enough of a punishment for you.” The captain whispered as he used the gate to chain Godan to the ground. He kneeled by him and was about to cuff his hands, but then he realized he was missing a hand. Groaning in annoyance, he went to his injured men. One only had a broken nose, while the other had a deep wound along his whole arm. “Lend us a cloth! Someone!” The captain urgently shouted.
“What a mess.” ; “The one who needs help is the guy with a sword…” ; “Will he ever be able to walk?” The people questioned each other, hardly believing what they had just witnessed.
