Chapter 17 - Damsel in Distress Huh? (Start of Volume 2)

"Help me!" A scream echoed in the forest; it hadn't even been a day since I had descended into this layer of 'Hell' and I had already encountered someone in this vast forest; I smiled bitterly cursing my bad luck for meeting someone in distress but my curiosity got the better of me and I couldn't help but follow the sound of the voice.

"Someone help me!" The voice was more clear this time, it was a feminine voice; the person screaming was most likely a girl I thought or a girly guy.

I chuckled at the thought, honestly, I didn't care what was happening but I needed to know where I was - saving someone would probably be my best bet of getting information.

I sighed as I moved through the tree-tops moving further towards the voice, the scene became more clear: A group of bandits had ambushed the convoy, a carriage and several horses lied on the ground; the horses were lifeless whilst the carriage had a silent flame ripping through it.

"Tch, what an idiot; we're in the depths of Hells Forest and you think anyone would save you? Did you think taking this path would prevent anyone from coming after you princess? If royalty like you can bear the risk of descending into this hell how can us mercenaries who live on the boundary between life and death care?" The rough looking man laughed as he looked at the girl lying on the floor, one of her hands was on the carriage as she tried to pull herself up; the soft light of the flame slowly moving closer like a predator looking at its prey.

"Our client would really like to see you unharmed, so if you would kindly step away from the carriage and we do this the easy way I would owe you a favor." A threatening smile was on his face as he stared at her, there was greed in his eyes as he scanned over her body; despite being young she had developed well clearly igniting the fire in this bandit's lower half.

I couldn't bear watching any longer, honestly, it was all too boring; these bandits didn't even possess the strength to scratch me let alone injure me.

I jumped down from the tree I was sitting on and leisurely began to walk towards them, "What a cliche scene; honestly I felt like I was watching one of those scenes I had read in novels in real life!" To add some dramatic flair I started to clap my hands as I walked towards them, "Who the fuck are you?" One of the bandits put a sword in my face, clearly ready to strike me at any moment.

"Tch, so impatient; die." I circulated the energy in my body and flicked his forehead, the sudden shock rattled his brain and caused him to drop to the ground.

+1 XP Gained from Killing Bandit (Mortal)

"Hmm, the XP seems to decrease as I become more powerful, nonetheless XP is still XP no matter how small it is." A river could erode a mountain with enough time; by slaughtering enough 1's I would naturally level up.

"What the fuck?! Kill him!" The rough looking man who had been talking to the woman I naturally assumed was a 'princess' from their conversation - I mean he had said it himself so unless it meant she was the princess of a noble family I'll assume she's really a princess.

"Why can they never just die quietly?" I said as I stared at him, I drew the Abyssal Daggers from my waist and imbued some energy into them; this was a little trick I had figured out in my few days wandering this forest, the daggers flew from my hands and instantly through the heads of the eight other bandits, finally decapitating the head of the final bandit who I had assumed to be their leader.

After all, you save the best till last right?

+5 XP Gained from killing Bandit (Mortal Leaving Primary)

"Tch, just a slightly bigger ant and you dared to tell them to kill me?" The feeling of being the one in control of my own life was exhilarating; I had been forced into a jail cell, out of my own home, then into the organization created by an eccentric expert madman who wanted to control Earth and rebel from his sect and now I finally had enough strength to at least control my destiny from here onwards.

"Calm... Calm down.." I trembled as I forced the feelings in my heart to disappear; I didn't have nearly enough strength to do something as audacious as control my own destiny yet, these weapons truly will be as much a curse as they are a blessing as I started to shudder, my emotions just now had been intensified by at least ten times and caused arrogance to appear in my heart tinged with complacency...

I ignored the other eight notifications of the deaths of the mortal bandits and they naturally disappeared on their own, my attention instantly turned to the blond-haired girl who was lying shocked on the ground; the carriage beside her had already turned into a raging inferno. "Pity.." I mumbled as I looked at it, it would've been a much better alternative to walking everywhere.

I quickly reminded myself however that I had nothing to pull the carriage, the horses all lay dead on the ground with not a single one breathing anymore so the feeling of regret was quickly quelled.

"Hmpf, daring to try to kidnap me! The nerve!" The first words she had spouted were much to my surprise, "Now commoner; take me to the Capital."

I looked around thinking there had to be someone else other than me around, but as I had thought there was no one; I was dumbfounded, was this how you were meant to treat the person who had saved your life? This brat didn't even look sixteen-years-old yet and she was spouting such bullsh*t?

"What are you looking for! Carry me!" She started to shout in my face, did she truly have no understanding of the situation just now? "Are you talking to me?" I couldn't help but ask - her attitude was too outrageous that it surprised me.

"Of course! Who else, are you a simpleton or something?!" She screeched, this time I was baffled; "I saved you." I said and looked at her, staring into her eyes - she met my stare with her own.

"So?" She replied stoutly.

"I saved you," I repeated again thinking maybe this time it would click that she would've been kidnapped if it wasn't for me. Much to my surprise, however, "So? You're obviously a commoner, commoners must obey royalty regardless of their power - considering you saved me it's my right to order you around."

I just stared blankly at her, what kind of logic was this? I felt rage bubbling in the depths of my heart as I looked at the arrogance on her face but quickly swallowed it; I didn't care about this girls life so I no longer held back - if she had been grateful I would've considered escorting her back, now? Hah.

"Answer my questions and you'll live." Killing intent filled the air as I stared at her, she started to tremble before falling to the ground; it was only natural after all, a mortal wouldn't be able to withstand my killing intent even with a strong will.

"Y-you, I order you to stop!" She screamed from the ground, honestly, she felt like an irritating fly that I wanted to kill but I wasn't sure when I would encounter another person.

"Just answer me," I said calmly, staring into her eyes she finally gave up all resistance - I imagine Ilook like the devil in her eyes currently...

...

This was the Kingdom of Yildred, it was the year 1023 on their calendar since the birth of the Holy child, similar to the BC dating this time would be considered AD; the history of this Kingdom stretched much further back than the year would indicate obviously.

This little girl is the 3rd princess, Daughter of the current King of the Kingdom which is why she was so arrogant, it was the 'Holy Teachings' that said all must listen to Royalty no matter their strength or face retribution from God; honestly I felt like it was impossible to escape the reaches of Religion regardless of how fantastical the world was.

However now I did have a destination in mind, the royal capital was a weeks journey from here following the path - that would be by carriage, considering my speed was faster than a carriage I had confidence I could reach there at most in a few days from now. I glanced over at the princess who was still feebly on the floor, a vicious glare in her eyes as she looked at me.

I sighed, why were people so predictable? I walked over and crouched down to look at her, "I'm going to kill you." I said calmly; the colour drained from her face in an instant - I could see she had something to say but she refrained from saying it. I think she knew that no matter what she said she couldn't save herself now but she did ask one thing, "Why?"

It was a fair question, a person deserved to know why they were going to die after all. "Because of your arrogance. I can't blame you for not knowing my story but you should never insult people regardless let alone the person who had saved you, you even tried to order me around? Hahaha, how laughable is that?"

"I hope you die." She spat in my face, I could only sigh - it was a fair response to the man who was going to kill her after all, for her and myself I made it quick and painless; I killed her with a simple blow to the head.

The death notification appeared yet I ignored it as I looked at her warm corpse, I felt nothing as I looked at it and simply stood up and began to walk down the path to the city.

This was the path I had chosen to go down, kill without hesitation and regret nothing; kill to become stronger and let nothing stand in my way... It was simply the beginning of my long journey down this road.
