Chapter 3 - Likely False or...?

What if he doesn't die? I mean, the word envy means wanting something others have that you don't or can't have, so meaning he can't die.

Argen's sister thought to herself 3 years back.

He was always at death's door during his intensive care times however, he kept on managing to live like a cockroach. I heard from mom that when they first saw him in the ruins, he was but a silent and healthy looking long-haired child wearing rags, staring at a large statue. Next to him was their robot which they had sent ahead to scout.

They were vigilant and suspicious around him, and tried to inquire and communicate with the boy, but after a few months being with the child, they gave up the questions since he never answered. They discovered he had no ill will nor was he dangerous. Everytime, they had their food break anywhere, suddenly he was there dead straight staring at them, so the three meals a day was the only times they were in close vicinity with each other.

Eventually, one of the members suggested they bring him out of the tomb since they probably think the kid was one of the former now-deceased inhabitants of the hut, that hid the passageway to this underground tomb, and that he was lost and couldn't get out.

The tomb was dark and the navigation was complicated. The only lightsource was their flashlights, so that member's hypothesis was accepted. Near the statue was edible plants and drinkable body of water, so the baffling issue about the boy's food source was solved in relation how was he able to live for long.

They uncovered a lot in the tomb and possibly some secrets. The time to leave the tomb for a another group to replace them was up and they brought the child out.

The first moment they caught sight of the outside world again, the boy ran ahead and bathed in the sunlight. He smiled to the group who watched in horror as his body rapidly turned sick and dessicated. He was like a skeleton wearing a tight, hard, and wrinkled sack of skin and his originally pale color turned deathly dark. His breathing and heartbeat was feeble, yet despite this scary happening, the boy looked happy as he let darkness submerge his conciousness. The group immediately brought him to the emergency tent and did some medical proceedures to at least alliviate his unknown illness.

Time passed by and my parents announced to the boy inside the ICU that they will be adopting him after the futile efforts of searching for his real family. There, the child was named Argen Vamia and the government declared he was seven.

When he could talk, then they would receive some answers from him using a lie-detector machine. They had also considered to dive into his thoughts and memories using a latest technology. However, all they could see was darkness instead. There was sometimes the sound of plants being crunched on and water being drank, but more than that such as how he came to be there, the technology was insufficient. They had already proven that Argen was human, so there wasn't any need to conduct further experiments as they weren't mad enough to disregard human life.

But the 13 deaths were something they couldn't explain as it was somewhat supernatural. They couldn't just conduct another round of test without evidence that he really was the perpetrator. Therefore my parents were assigned to observe him.

A curse he received in the ruins they said.

It was when you hurt the boy in some way would you leave the living world, they said.

But weirdly, he likes being hurt...

Due to Mr. Ron having the qualifications to teach Argen and the coincidence that he was Argen's adopted dad's good friend, who was saved from suicidal tendencies; the government didn't need to arrange someone to try and fix Argen's mental anomaly. Mr. Ron was an excellent kind man.

But the 'curse' and his creepiness seemed to have ended when he hit ten years old. His personality turned to a pleasant change.

One time when we were out together at the mall, a woman, which happend to be a teacher at my school, accidentally stepped painfully onto his shoes.

The next day, I thought she was done for, but a week, then a year passed by with her still being healthy as ever.

Several happenings such as that occured and no one lost a life.

I risked it one time and slapped his arm pretending there was a mosquito.

I'm still alive and well.

He became much more talkative. His expressions weren't blank ones anymore and could now finally laugh, frown, and cry like a normal person.

Some years after he was able to speak properly, he was questioned. But he couldn't remember the times he was at the ruin, about his weird antics, gifts and best friend.

The lie-detector did not budge. He was telling the truth.

Eventually, he even forgot we ever questioned him.

Why?

Or maybe he knew of a loophole within the lie detector and had exploited that? I won't believe that he has changed.

He must be pretending.

Yes.

He must be.

That psycho who encourages us to sleep eternally while wearing a kind expression, has changed?

What do you mean mom, dad?!

Didn't you know that his smile can literally kill?! The bastard is smart as I have seen from his report cards and tests from the strict Mr. Ron! Who could deny that he could be hiding within a mask and is currently plotting to end us.

I wouldn't be shocked if suddenly mom and dad openly embraces the hanging rope Argen gives as a necklace.

They have been brainwashed.

NO! I AM NOT PARANOID! If I am, then removing Argen is the cure!

I'm taking a big risk by killing Argen here. There's a tiny possibility he won't die and snitch me. So hey, would you punish me...or

THANK ME INSTEAD?!

THANK ME THAT I HAVE PROVEN HE'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK HE IS!? THANK ME THAT HE'S A DANGEROUS UNDYING INDIVIDUAL! THANK ME THAT I HAVE RISKED MY LIFE!?

And if he does die then...hehehe...

Say mom and dad, who do you love the most?!

___

Archelle resumed her innocent act and stood up to prepare her own dinner. She was humming her usual favorite song while bringing her food beside Argen and watched TV while eating.

"Breaking news! Just in, Former President Pe -------- had unfotunately passed away this 1:30 pm in the afternoon. According to the family he----"

She switched to another channel and watched some dramas. Two male and female perfect strangers aciddentally bumped, fell down atop of each other, had eye contact and everything suddenly turned slowmo with a love song playing. Archelle inwardly rolled her eyes at the trope yet continued watching with a cheerful expression.

This is what she would do everytime Argen falls asleep or stays awake on the couch.

Ever since Argen changed 4 years ago, she has always kept her opinions to herself and adopted a meek personality to lower everyone's guard.

A dense, bubbly, and innocent lady who won't even know coffee spilt onto her skirt without being pointed out.

Argen's phone buzzed in his hand and the mom's ID showed up. Archelle re-checked his pulse on the wrist discreetly while picking up the call using Argen's fingerprints to unlock it.

"Hello Argen? Has you sister retur--"

"Mom, this is Archelle. He went to sleep in the couch after surfing the net." Archelle waved her hands a little to her mom before facing the screen for a moment to Argen, who looked fast asleep. Their mom was in a hotel room, with the dad busy on the laptop, as seen in the backround.

"Again? Well, I'm glad you're back at home to accompany him. Go bring Argen some blankets and as always, do not disturb him by waking him up to bed. Just sleep on the next sofa so that he's not alone. Also die down the volume of the TV a little, lest you'll wake him up."

All the care belongs to the stranger as always.

Archelle smiled bitterly inside her mind.

"Oh it's okay mom. You don't need to worry about him waking up from the TV's volume..."

...now that he's dead.

"...since I'll be wearing bluetooth earphones." She rummaged through the drawer beneath the TV and wirelessly connected the earphones.

She didn't put it on just yet and continued their conversation, ranging from the time when the couple landed from the plane to what type of souvernirs would she and Argen want.

The call ended and Archelle resumed her casual activity.

All seemed like an everynight thing in the eyes of the camera. The sister was up laughing at her favorite show while the brother was peacefully sleeping after being exhausted playing gadgets. A normal picturesque evening, not knowing it was actually already a crime scene.

The laughing criminal beside her victim's corpse. The only ones inside the room.

Or not, as there was a third-person standing between the TV and the siblings.

Staring with an undescribable gleam in his eyes, Argen's invicible doppleganger, held a lifeless and near transparent color.

He felt utterly disappointed, sad, and betrayed.

A part of him screams to lash out his boiling rage, meawhile the other wants to sit down in a corner, draw circles, wallow and mourn about the fact that he has become his very own nightmare. The ghost.

But luckily his rage triumphed and obeyed the urge to try and slap to living hell right off the wicked woman for poisoning him. However only a meagre amount of her hair stands was affected. He tried another barrage of violence but it was a fruitless effort. Should he try and possess her or something and inflict self-harm?

He tried and...

Nah...it didn't work.

"Forget it. How could I ever harm her? My blank memory slates of my childhood could be a support of her claims. If her words a while back were true, then I should be somewhat thankful about the fact they had put up with me for the past years despite the fact I was a troublemaking child. I haven't repayed any of their kindness." He mumbled as if letting his noble words cover up his frustrations at being weak in afterlife vengeance.

He decided that the priority right now was to plant some 'clues' and send her to jail. Although currently he wanted to investigate more and know the authentency of her words back then, he needs his justice first before he is dragged somewhere or disappear as a soul.

'But if all she was spouting were nonsense and she was proven as the real crazy, would they not send her to jail because of medical reasons? Then my poor life would be reduced to nothing more than a sacrificial proof of her mental illness. Where thou art my justice would be? How bothersome...' Thought the poor ghost.

Without the body shackling his speed and movements, he first went up to his room and tried to pry open his laptop using his measly stength silently. Different to the expected hard difficulty, the laptop opened easily. Or more like he accidentally went in and possessed the laptop.

Hmm?

A certain superstitious thought barged it's way to his mind.

'Could it be I'm only weak at commiting violence? I was indeed lacking deep negativities during the time I died. My power source to harm is antlike. I was more confused and shocked rather than feeling deep resentment and despair.'

Argen put the thinking on hold and after switching the laptop to silent mode and inputting the password without a sound, he opened his journal.

Hi to the 4 of you who have this in your library! You may have already forgotten the plot but hey... Thank you Really So I share what I write for fun therefore grammar mistakes would be seen. And yes, I write abyssmally slow since I have inspiration problems. Wouldn't want to repeat those cringy past of mine by prioritizing quantity over quality. What you may read might not be final. If there's a plot hole I'll spot, I go back and change, but of course will inform of the changes for you not to re-read the dang chap again. Months perhaps would pass by before an update. Dropping off a slow-updated story is normal for readers, so no hard feelings. You have been warned. I'm sorry. Here's another chapter if you'd like.
