What even IS Contemporary Southern Gothic Fantasy?

I've been wanting to put my first series out onto the web for free, because I know it deserves a wider audience than the big online bookstore algorithms can give it. I'm so glad to have discovered MoonQuill, because the work here seems to be of higher quality (not to mention much more focused on Fantasy and SF!) I intend to migrate one chapter a week of my Woodley, USA series to MoonQuill, until all three novels (plus the Christmas episode novelette!) are complete here.
The Woodley, USA series is loosely inspired by the old Gothic Romances I used to steal off my mom's bookshelf and hide in the basement to read when I was a kid. Those tended to feature a heroine in a spooky house, trying to solve a mystery without becoming the next victim. Sometimes the ghosts were real, and sometimes they were just machinations of the villain. I always loved the kind with real ghosts best! Oh, and there was always a romantic sub-plot, too. When I got older, I couldn't find those kinds of books for sale anymore, so I had to write them myself!
Only, when I sat down to write, it wasn't just ghosts that came out of the woodwork to introduce themselves to me. Turned out, there were also faeries and other fey folk hiding in the woods around the house.
The stories I write are designed for an adult audience: women and men who believe magic can happen to us at any age, around any corner of our everyday, modern world, even though we are grownups with bills to pay. My ghosts are usually the good guys (usually!) but some of the humans... let's just say the living can be a lot more trouble than the dead. And the fey, well, it's never easy to tell whose side they're on.
I hope you enjoy my characters and their stories, as well as Woodley and Vale House (which are also characters in their own way!)

You know what? I've decided to start publishing chapters more often - say, one every couple of days. Because October is coming and this is the perfect story to read during Spooky Season! I intend to get it all out there by October 31.
