Chapter 10 - THE COMBUSTION CORE

The air on Albert Road turned freezing as Hope drew her blade.

She didn't possess an advanced arsenal of martial arts yet; everything she knew came straight from the basic curriculum of her

Aegis Sword Class

. In terms of special abilities, her registry only held two actual techniques: the raw, destructive

Volcanic Ball

, and a highly classified

Secret Technique

she hadn't revealed to anyone.

With a sharp exhale, Hope dashed forward, her blade cutting through the air in a clean, standard academic sequence.

CLANG! CLANG!

To Leo's surprise, her basic swordplay was flawlessly precise. She didn't waste an ounce of movement. The Vector lunged with its mutated claws, but Hope parried every single strike with cold efficiency. Within a single minute of exchange, the Vector realized a terrifying truth—it could not win against this girl in close-quarters combat.

Sensing its impending death, the Vector waited for a heavy clash, used the momentum to push back, and instantly opened up a massive distance between them. Activating its innate super speed, the monster turned to flee down the desolate highway.

"You're not escaping," Hope whispered.

She held out her left hand, pooling raw energy into her palm.

"Volcanic Ball!"

A sphere of crackling, violent crimson light materialized at her fingertips and shot forward like a railgun round.

Watching from the sidelines, Leo's jaw completely dropped.

'Are you kidding me?!'

he screamed internally.

'For a standard elite soldier, learning to manifest a Volcanic Ball takes at least one full month of grueling meditation. And look at the size of hers!'

Standard Volcanic Balls were massive, fiery spheres. Hope's version was incredibly small—barely the size of a marble—but the density of the

Flux Energy

packed inside it was astronomical. It wasn't a fire attack; it was a hyper-compressed bullet of pure gravitational destruction.

Realizing it couldn't outrun the projectile, the Vector violently spun around, releasing its own erratic Flux Rays to counter the attack. But the monster was cunning. Instead of aiming entirely at the ball, it redirected a lethal beam of Flux straight toward a nearby structural barricade—where the

Police Chief

was secretly watching the battle!

The Chief froze, staring death in the face as the lethal beam shot toward him.

Hope didn't hesitate. Her eyes flared with a dangerous light as she executed a high-risk, uninhibited sword maneuver. Channeling the remaining momentum of her dense flux directly into her blade, she converted her entire body into a streak of pure kinetic violence.

FLASH!

She intercepted the trajectory, her glowing blade slicing cleanly through the Vector's rogue Flux Rays before the monster could even process her movement. She appeared directly behind the beast, smoothly sheathing her sword.

A clean, glowing line appeared across the Vector's torso. A second later, the massive creature was cut cleanly into two perfect slices, crashing to the pavement in a cloud of dissolving ash.

The street fell silent. Leo broke into a massive grin, completely discarding his stoic mentor persona. He ran forward and threw his arm around Hope in a proud hug.

"I knew you could defeat that thing, bro!" Leo laughed, tossing her hair. "That compressed core was unbelievable!"

❄️ Meanwhile: The Shadow in the Village

Night had officially fallen over the remote Icelandic village. The pristine snow now reflected the deep blue tint of the midnight sky.

Perry checked her gauntlet tracker, leaning against a frosted wooden post. "It's time," she said quietly. "The local Vector variant only hunts when the sunlight is completely gone."

Millar stretched his arms, gripping his weapon tightly. "Right. I'll take the first round and patrol the village perimeter to make sure nothing sneaks into the residential huts."

He looked back at Perry, a cocky, teasing smirk plastered across his face. "Just don't go trying to kill the beast on your own, you idiotic girl. Leave some action for me."

Perry just rolled her eyes. "Just go do your lap, Millar."

Millar laughed out loud, waving his hand dismissively as he walked off into the darkness of the snowy paths.

The moment Millar's footsteps faded into the distance, the air pressure dropped. The snow beneath Perry's boots began to vibrate violently. From the dark shadow of an alleyway, a massive, snarling village-tier Vector materialized, its glowing yellow eyes locked directly onto her.

Perry didn't flinch. In fact, a cold, dangerous smile spread across her lips.

"I think this is my hunt," she murmured.

She tapped her core activator. Element Type:

Wind

.

Among all the soldiers under Aditya's command, Wind-type users possessed the most absurd, uncatchable velocity. Perry didn't just move—she evaporated.

"Super Flash!"

A blinding cyclone of sharp, high-velocity wind currents erupted in a localized burst. To an outside observer, it looked like a single silver flash of lightning striking the snow.

One. Two. Three...

Exactly

10 seconds

passed.

Perry stood in the exact same spot she started, casually dusting snow off her shoulder. Behind her, the village Vector split into a dozen jagged pieces, completely shredded by hyper-pressurized wind blades before it could even let out a single roar.

A minute later, Millar came running back around the corner, his weapon raised and his eyes wide with adrenaline. He stopped dead in his tracks, staring at the smoking, shredded remains of the creature.

"What the actual fuck?!" Millar shouted, his jaw hitting the snow. "When did you even kill it?! The second I walk away, the damn thing comes out of nowhere and you already turned it into minced meat?!"

Perry just smirked, popping her gum. "Speed kills, Millar. Keep up."

🚌 The Next Phase

Ten minutes later, Perry and Millar arrived at the rural transit station, their mission completely cleared. Suddenly, Perry's tactical communicator began to buzz. She patched the audio through.

"Hey, where are you guys?" Leo's voice boomed through the speaker, completely cheerful. "Hope and I just arrived at the central city transit hub."

"We just wrapped up at the village station," Perry replied, adjusting her gear. "Are we booking the hyper-train back to headquarters?"

"Change of plans!" Leo announced enthusiastically. "My directive is to skip the train. Let's meet up at the regional bus stand instead. I already mapped out a coastal bus route. We've been working like crazy—let's take the bus, relax, and have some real fun on the ride back!"

Hope's voice drifted faintly from the background of Leo's mic, sounding lighter and happier than ever before. "We are buying snacks."
