I stomp down the stairs, buttoning my jacket as I go, almost dropping things from my backpack. I run into the kitchen, grab a toast off the table and stuff it into my mouth, waving to my surprised mom and dad.
"Adam, did you oversleep?" mom asks. "I can give you a lift."
But I shake my head and run out of the kitchen into the hallway, where I hurriedly put on my sneakers and finally jump out the door. I run like mad. It seems that I have a couple of wings behind my back. I run to Logan's house, but I don't stop at it, so my thoughts can't catch up with me. I run up to his door and stop short because I notice Logan. He is sitting on the porch and vaping. He looks up at me. I'm panting and looking at him. I still have a piece of toast in my hand.
