Eight hooded figures occupied a crystalline throne each in the circular hall while the highest one was vacant.
The figure with its huge tail around its throne frowned and said,
"Getting all the other races to compete is a good idea, but why the hassle? Just erase those that don't wish to compete."
Another figure gave a weird look
"Why? You know pretty well. Still, you're trying to provoke me? Don't think I will let you go after what you did."
They were about to bicker when the smallest figure in the hall raised its hand. They didn't dare talk back.
"Let's go with the suggestion from fourth."
Then it paused for a moment and said
"Its better than fighting each other. Send out the highest level Thrall messengers throughout the universe to look for eligible races."
"This needs to succeed or we all will cease to exist."
The other seven figures nodded.
-Earth-

It was a normal day on earth. Politicians fighting and bickering, traffic bustling through the cities, a few dying in crashes, thousands of babies born, millions of animals killed for meat, thousands of trees cut down. Just a totally normal day.
Well until, the world turned completely dark on this day. It seemed the sun had been covered and one couldn't even see their own hands. For a total of 3 minutes, all sources of light including bulbs, torches even fire couldn't produce any light. People were confused and scared due to the mysterious phenomenon. The people living in the regions of earth that were dark experienced the same as well and were scared witless as the world had turned completely dark for them. Suddenly, everything became normal again.
Well almost normal. As all humans could see a 12-year-old girl with her eyes closed, hovering in front of them. She had a round face with rosy lips and long eyelashes forming a painting that could drain anyone's mind.
A moment later she opened her eyes and as she did everything in the world stopped. The time seemed to flow infinitely slow. Then, with a cheerful expression and an angelic voice rang out as she started speaking to everyone.
"Hello humans, I am Juviel a messenger of the Great Gods. Every human over the age of 2 trods(1) , 18 years in human terms can listen to this message. Every human can only hear their own version of my image."
"The eight of the Nine Great Gods have decided to hold a competition for all races of the universe with intelligence level 11 and above"
"The winning race or races will be given unimaginable rewards."
Each one of you humans has two options- Forfeit or Compete"
"If you choose to forfeit, you will be exempted from the competition and lead your normal life here on your so called planet Earth."
"If you choose to compete, you will be a participant on behalf of your race and will be allowed to compete on a stage meant for Greater beings."
"Before you choose there is an over all race condition. If more than 75% of your race chooses to forfeit, your human race will be erased. Also, a maximum of 30% of your race is eligible to participate. In case a greater number of humans choose to compete, only the best 30% of the human race will be chosen through certain methods"
"You have a time of 1 trid,almost 3 days in human terms to discuss and choose.Oh! By the way, this is not an illusion or a joke, your race may really be erased."
Suddenly all images of Juviel were visible to all other humans and said altogether
"You must feel grateful for the Great Gods have deemed you eligible. May the Great Gods bless you all."
Then all the images of Juviel vanished.
-Somewhere on Moon-
After the announcement, a light flashed over the surface. A small human like figure with dark red eyes could be seen in a sitting pose while hovering above the ground.
It suddenly started screaming although nobody could hear it.
"WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THESE BAFFOONS WITH SUCH LOW TECHNOLOGY AND STRENGTH FOR A WHOLE TRID(2) ?! DAMMIT"
A while later
"Anyways I hope they don't choose to forfeit or I won't get 'that' for those five. Although, its been pretty long since I massacred a race, I really don't want to destroy these five baffoons and their race."
"Hehehee, may the Great God's bless me"
-Back on Earth-
During the darkness, no one could perceive what was going on. When the lights were back they could see again but were unable to move a muscle. A fairy like girl with dark red eyes was in front of them she gave a world-shaking announcement and then just vanished.
All TV Channels started broadcasting their views on channels and called concerned experts on various departments of Science Colleges and Research Institutes but most of them were unavailable.
All the Governments of the Countries started holding meetings with experts on science even priests were called out for their opinions.
In a matter of hours, the whole world panicked.
Well, the whole world didn't have to panic and exceptions could be made as this day changed their life forever.
