Chapter 14 - Failing A Test!

I frowned even deeper than I already was and thought,

save seventy-five people that I saved, or save ten people that have my family among them? What a stupid question. There is only one answer anyone could and would give posed with such a question. Hero or no hero.

I relaxed my face; then I raised the corners of my lips forming a faint smile and said,

“I would save my family of course.”

“Mhm,” a rumbling sound sounded and Nara slightly nodded his stone head. I widened my eyes in surprise and thought,

I thought they could only change their facial expressions, not move their body parts…

A rumbling sound sounded and Nara placed his right hand on his hip, “You have passed the test.” Following his words, two rumbling sounds sounded. One, from the wall behind him as a path opened. And the other, from Nara as a mocking expression appeared on his stone face, “But don’t get conceited, human brat. It only happened because the one giving the test was that filthy true Vampire – Lilith. If this test was set up by either one of those other two, you would have failed.” After his last word left his stone mouth, the torches extinguished and Nara’s statue’s eyes dimmed down.

I closed my eyes and thought,

true Vampire? Since I passed a true vampire’s inheritance test, will I be turned into one, if I accept the inheritance? Mhm…There were plenty Vampire players around, but no true vampire players… In the game, Vampires were an evil alignment race. Which you could only interact and build reputation points, if you either played an evil or a neutral alignment class or a race. But as a Vampire player, you could only interact with an evil alignment races. If I become a Vampire, I wouldn’t have to hide that I am a warlock, but warlock has that levelling problem, and that is why I am here now, to get a new class and not a race…

I opened my eyes; then moved them away from Nara’s statue to the exit and walked into it.

Once again, I found myself in a corridor and I walked down it. This corridor, like the corridor from before had torches every 5-yards and every time

I passed by the torches they would light up.

After

passing more than 500 torches, I walked out into a medium-sized room, and I moved my head and eyes looking around it. I saw that this room was almost identical to the room from before; as the walls, the ceiling and the floor were all made out of stone, and there were two torches in the middle of the room. The one difference was that there was no statue. Instead of a statue there was a small pool of blood.

I slightly tilted my head in confusion,

huh? Where is the statue? And what is that blood about?

I thought as I walked up to the two torches. The moment I reached them, they lit up, and from the blood formed a small bat. A status bar appeared above its head.

<Lilith’s Blood, Level 100>

<HP:1,000/1,000>

The small bat made out of blood flew upwards, stopping at my eye level, and a beautiful pleasing to the ear voice sounded from it. But it was not the voice I heard when Shiuri wanted to recite his story to me, it was an entirely different voice, “You know what is truly important, and so you have passed my test. Will you accept my inheritance and become a true vampire. Thus becoming a part of my clan, a part of my family?”

I looked at the small bat fluttering in the air for a short moment and I shook my head, “I am sorry, but I decline.”

“I see,” a voice filled with sadness sounded from the little made out blood bat; then an emotionless voice sounded from it, “Your test is to answer this question. From the city that you chose not to save survived a man, he kidnapped your family, and he says that he will kill them all, unless you kill yourself. At the same time, a city in which live more than a million people is attacked by monsters. What do you do? Do you let it happen without doing anything? Do you kill yourself? Do you kill the kidnapper before he kills your family? Or do you save the city? You have time to only do one thing.”

I frowned and closed my eyes, thinking,

I would save my family as it is much more important than anything else. I already made a similar decision in the past, and that is what sent me to prison for ten years. At that time, I had to either confess to a crime I didn’t commit or my family would have been killed…

I opened my eyes and raised the corners of my lips, smiling widely and said, “I would kill myself.”

The little made out blood bat fluttered in the air in silence for a few seconds before speaking, “You failed the test.” I closed my eyes and slightly nodded my head; a rumbling sound sounded, a path to my left opened, “That path will lead you to outside…”

I nodded my head again and opened my eyes, “I see,” I said and thought,

I regret nothing.

 I turned my body in the direction of the opened exit, but before I could take a single step towards it, a voice that stopped Shiuri from telling his life’s story sounded, “Lilith, open him the path to my chamber.”

That voice, it’s the same voice from before,

I thought and

moved my body, head and eyes to the bat that was made out of blood as I knew that I wouldn't be able to find the owner of the voice in this room.

“What?! Didn’t you say that you would only give your inheritance only when we all passed on our inheritances?” A shocked voice sounded from the little made out blood bat.

“Lilith, he is the one I have been searching for more than 100,000,000 years. His answers and his expressions when he vocalised them were the same as my brother’s answers and expressions when he was still alive. Please send him my way.”

“I understand,” A rumbling sound sounded and the path to the right opened, “Go on, and one warning. If you decline our leader’s inheritance, I will find you and I will kill you. Not me alone, but we all will.” The torches extinguished and the blood bat dissolved, falling onto the ground with a splashing sound.
