I'm excited for gym!
She was. The course description for this new gym class was full of fun things like dancing, Zumba, yoga, and others. If she had to say which was her favourite, it would be dancing.
Then it came, the first day where they actually did physical activities in gym was…
Midori didn't like it...No, she hated it.
I don't usually use 'hate' to express my displeasure, but...
It was exercise, on the bare floor with dirt and...You knew what they were. For others, well it was normal, they didn't care. However, she did; she couldn't be considered as having mysophobia but was relatable. Especially, she was very sensitive about the cleanliness of her face.
She didn't want to get dirt onto her face because others said dirt could clogged pores and create pimples and acne. No girl wanted pimples and acne or bumps on their face. Hence, she tried very hard to carefully keep her face away from visible dirt, including her hands and shirt. But the biggest problem that day was not about dirtiness, it was about her health.
After she vigorously biked on the biking machine, she felt really tired. Her head felt heavy while trying to walk normally and steadily to the nearest wall. She felt like she was walking on air, her visions were blurry and grey, barely could see anything.
When she reached the wall, without caring if the wall was free of footprints and dirt, she leaned her back onto it. After a few minutes, she still didn't recover from her weakened state but only felt more dizzy, lightheaded, and tired. It was so suffocating and hard to breathe that she had to sit on the floor without a single care. The air was so warm and heavy that a light cool breeze was a wishful luxury.
"Hey, are you okay?" Ms. Gayz asked, her face looked casual and tired from the exercise they just did; which Midori doubted she did but still was tired. “Why aren't you changing?”
Her body was burning and her vision was not much better than before. The others were cleaning up and most already left the gym for the locker room. Midori worried that she wouldn't have enough time to change before the bell rang.
“Yes, I’m okay. Just tired.” Midori lied, not knowing if her expression matched her words, “I’ll just rest here for a bit.”
“Okay,” she stared at her for a bit more before continued with whatever she was doing.
She attempted to stand up without using her hands but couldn't and fell back down. Thinking that she could just wash it in the locker's restroom, she pushed herself up from the ground.
While her head felt heavy, she also felt lightheaded at the same time. Dots of grey and white obstructed her vision, depending solely on faint outlines, she got herself out of the gym.
Unfortunately, before she could reach for the locker room door, her eyesight was smothered with those dots that she could only see solid grey.
She could feel her consciousness was wavering and the next thing she knew was that she had laid on the ground. Half of her face upon the cold floor, she heard some girls screamed for the teacher.
"Hey! Are you okay!?" a worried voice of a girl sounded muffled in her ears.
She could slightly glimpse that the girl was not looking at her but looking to see if the teacher came yet. The girl was squatting next to her, trying to get her to stay awake.
I'm not going to fall unconscious...So stop yelling.
Ms. Gayz arrived and turned her onto her back. With her face up, she could vaguely make sense of the things happening around her.
To be honest, that was one of the most peaceful moments she had in a long time; the last time wasn't peaceful because she banged her head into a metal stand while falling in a market, and it hurt.
However, her mind was now cleared, even though all her limbs gave in to fatigue, and what awaited her was a tumult.
She was asked many questions, most of which she didn't remember. But she heard the teachers were speaking with each other.
"What happened?" a male teacher asked.
"I don't know. All we did was calorie biking, a simple exercise but she is now like this." Ms. Gayz said irritatedly.
Midori felt her slightly irate gaze staring at her.
"The nurse is coming, can you move or sit up?" She squatted down.
Shaking her head weakly, she stared at the teacher tiredly, making sure her eyes weren't involuntarily grimacing at Ms. Gayz, then she averted her eyes to observe the ceiling again.
Don't. If I were her, I would feel annoyed, too.
“Ms. Gayz, the nurse is coming,” the girl strode back to where Midori was lying.
She lowered her eyes and found the nurse rushing toward her from down the hall.
Ah...What do you think will happen now?
I’ll just try to persuade them to not call the ambulance to send me to the hospital.
She stared back at the ceiling, waiting for whatever was coming to come.
Again, when the nursed came, she was asked with another great amount of questions.
"Did you eat anything for breakfast?"
"I did, cereal…"
"Did you eat lunch?"
"Not yet, it's next period.” She sighed and softly said, “Uhm...I am completely fine once I eat or just consume a bit of sugar so...Please don't send me to the hospital."
They stared at her for a while before the nurse said, “Honey, we are going to the nurse office, okay? We need to tell your parents.”
When she said she needed a bit of sugar, it seemed like they misunderstood her health condition. Apparently, they assumed she had diabetes since Midori couldn’t answer why she had almost passed out. Evidently, she knew why she was like that but forgot the name for it.
What is it called!? Something...The doctor even explained the structures of the word and why it is called that. What is it??
“But I really am fine, I just need some sugar, really.” She tried to persuade the nurse, her face was tired but sober and serene. “This happened many times before and I just need a bit of sugar to get back to normal. So please, I can continue with school.”
"This happened before?" The nurse quirked her eyebrows. "When?"
"..." Midori gazed through the nurse for a second then said, "In Japan."
The nurse's eyebrows screwed up a little before she said, “Well, we have crackers and juices. What do you want?”
Even without learning about carbohydrate in Biology, she still could identify which one was a much better choice. Now was not the time to worry about her weight. “The juice, please.”
Soon, the juice came and she hurriedly drained down the juice cup in one go. She took a deep breath and gave the nurse the emptied cup. “I am fine now, just a bit of rest and I can go to my next class.”
The nurse studied her face and said, “You do look better now, regaining your colour. You looked pale as a ghost before.”
Midori’s eyes glinted vaguely in expectation to not be sent home nor the hospital.
