Chapter 14 - Still Summer

Midori changed her mind about ending the volume. It was still summer and a lot of things happened even when she stayed at home by herself most of the time. After imitating the hands in the video that played the piano, I took a look at her phone and found that she had new messages.

12:39 am.

[Sister: Midori

Did u eat the noodles?

Please take a shower early

Maybe at 4

I am working so when I go home

I need the shower]

1:09 am.

[Me: Take a shower at 4?]

[Sister: Yeah!]

{Me: What to wear?]

[Sister: Nice comfort clothes

U meeting mostly adults

So...don’t wear street style]

Today, they would attend a celebration on her sister’s former part-time job’s boss’ new restaurant’s opening; it wasn’t open yet until a few months later, this was just a celebration.

They discussed what she should wear to the event for a while before Midori returned to watching Youtube on the television. She searched on her phone and cast the video called “BTS funny moments.”

She didn’t consider herself as a fan of BTS or any showbiz celebrity because she chose what to listen base on the song and not the artist(s.) However, she did watch these stuff on BTS quiet more comparing to other celebrities, in fact, maybe they were the first one that she had watched videos other than music videos.

Being home alone was boring and their videos cheered her up, even though they made her cringed in third-party embarrassment at some points, it was still funny.

My homework…

She glanced at the thick textbook in the northwest direction of her field of vision. She hummed in a whining tone, “Hnnnnnnnnknknknknknknnknknknnknk…”

I still have to colour the map…

Her eyes brightened.

But I’m glad that I finished everything in that packet except for the colouring… It feels much better having that done…!

She gasped and her expression dropped exasperatedly.

But I have to finish that urgh confusing book and skim this whole textbook! I only have 28 days left until school starts!!

She suddenly worried for her future AP US History class performances. Although she exaggerated her complaints, it soon disappeared and she was at peace again, having not a single thoughts left in her mind. This was one ability that she was very satisfied with: being able to stay at peace even when fires were chasing after her tail.

After this video, I’ll bring the colour pencil down and finish that packet. When we are back home after the celebration, read the book… Just 1 or 2 pages is still fine. Then I'll write afterward.

With that in mind, she resumed her carefree summer’s daytime routine.

“Midori, let’s go.” Nanaka walked out of her room and notified her.

She turned away from her laptop and glanced at her sister before closing her laptop and got out of bed. She put on her jacket, took her phone, and went downstairs. After saying goodbye to Tosaka who was lying on the couch watching TV, she followed her sister out to the car.

“We’re picking up cake, flower.” Her sister said, starting the car.

She entered the car and quirked her eyebrows.

Cake flour?

Turning to Nanaka, “What?”

“What? We can’t go there and bring nothing.” Her sister started driving as she answered.

“I know that but…”

After a few seconds of confusion, she decided to ask again, “...Cake flour...?”

“Cake, flower.”

Her brows slightly furrowed and repeated, “Cake flour?”

“Yes, I mean cake and flower.”

“...” Letting her mind processed for a bit, she finally understood what her sister was saying.

Oh, cake and flower.

“I thought you said ‘Cake flour’ and in ‘flo

ur

.’”

“Pft.” That phrased triggered her sister and they laughed, guffawing loudly. “Hahahahaha!!”

“I was like… You’re bringing her cake flour? That’s weird.” Midori grinned and turned to the open window, letting the wind swept her hair.

Nanaka chuckled.

After they picked up the cake and flower, her sister drove to the place where her boss’ old restaurant was at, which confused Midori.

“Her new restaurant is here, again?”

Her sister said something but she couldn’t hear and they got off the car. About 10 seconds later, she sensed that someone was standing behind her and figured why they were in this place’s parking. They were going with her boyfriend in his car.

As expected, when she turned around, Midori saw Sam, the boyfriend, facing her sister and they conversed with each other.

Oh, he’s really behind me.

Although Sam was around 17 years older than her sister, his appearance was still very young-looking and doesn’t look like someone who was in his early 40s. Because Nanaka’s boyfriend was old enough to be her parent and was someone who had been married before and even had a child, Tosaka and Nanaka wouldn’t have a very good relationship when topics about her sister’s love life came up.

Even though he was more than a decade older than her sister, Midori didn’t have any problem not accepting him as her sister’s boyfriend and future husband. He was nice and was a good man, at least that what she believed. Nanaka also loved him very much and was certain that they could overcome any obstacle in their way.

To be honest, she didn’t mind because she really cared. It was her sister’s life and whatever she did was her choice to pick. She was old even to do these things by herself, to decide for herself. Whatever she chose, Midori would always be on her side unless the choice was illogical. That being the case was probably because Nanaka spent more time with her than her mother and her being more open-minded than Tosaka.

“Midori, can you take the flower out of the car?” Her sister asked as she opened the door for her boyfriend to bring out the cake.

“Okay.”

“This, it’s a box in a box.” He stared at the thing in his hands and said, chuckling and making the girls snickered too. Apparently, her sister had placed the cake box inside of a cardboard box and it stuck in there.

After transferring the gifts to Sam’s car, they began driving to the actual location of the restaurant.
