"Dream - a series of thoughts, images and sensations happening during the sleep."
The silence was so deafening. I could hear my heart beat on my ears. I didn't know how and I didn't know why I was standing in the middle of some highway, that was fenced by forest on both sides. The highway was deserted as long as I could see, with two yellow parallel lines running in the dark thar road. The dense smoke seeping from the forest was covering the limited vision on the highway. My foot was rooted to the road. No matter how much I tried ,it just didn't move.
"Any one there? Can anyone hear me?",I asked with a shivering voice.
My questions remained hanging in the air. The thought of being alone on a highway during night, made my legs buckle and my heart raced fast. Sluggish air and moonlight from a black quoted sky made bile rise. The eerie silence made me feel nauseating.
Mustering up enough courage, I stepped towards no particular direction, the cold surface under my bare feet giving goosebumps all over the body. Each step had my hope come down. The feeling of being trapped engulfed and my stomach dropped when I heard the rustling sound to my left.
My eyes frantically searching for something or someone. The tension in the air increased when a long silence followed after. I stepped towards the forest to get a clear vision into the dark. The forest showed nothing but thin white cloud till the end. The sound of something jumping on the dry leaves turned my attention to the other side of the road. The tremble in my legs was theevidence of my fear. I was pushing me to the other end.
There was a little bump on the border line of the forest as if someone jumped on it. The presentiment of disaster hit me like a thunder making my head spin. My neck begun to stiffen and tense, and a tingling sensation began to spread. I can't explain how I knew, but I knew I was being watched.
I started walking along the road, hoping and praying that I could see some vehicle pass by. My prayers were heard by the wall, darkness was all that engulfed. The pain that endorsed my feet made no effort to drowse my fear. The rustling sound continued along my passage but I never once dared to stop. Suddenly, someone pushed me from the back. I landed on my hands and knees, with pain shooting instantly through my body.
The presence of no one behind me made my chest tightened with fear. The cloud started thundering scaring the life out of me. Then, I heard the footsteps but none to be seen.
"He...Hello. Is this a prank?", I whispered to myself.
"If it is a joke, please stop it right now, cause it isn't funny.",I pleaded among the tears, flowing without my consent.
Silence
Jesus Christ !
I stood on my feet with a small scrapes on my knees and my palms. My pace dulled much slower as tears were flooding my vision. The thundering sound made me tremble and silence followed made me sick. After walking for a very long distance on the never ending road, on the verge of losing my last drop of hope. I heard a different sound.
Engines.
The dot of light through the darkness perked my hopes as I started sprinting towards the light. The swell of light put a smile on my face. I was going home until..
"Grace".
The thick voice whispering next to my ears had turned my legs stone with terror. I slowly turned around to see
No one.
"Jordan ? Is that you? ",my voice booming in the forest
Maybe I heard it wrong but some part of me was telling me, no. I shook my head and turned around to come face to face with the light. I felt something heavy hit my head and all of a sudden I was suspended in the air. My mind wasn't processing anything but I knew one thing for sure.
I am going to die.
The moment I was bracing myself for the impact, I saw it.
I bolted awake on the floor with blankets around my legs. The temperature in the room was very cold. I was soaked with sweat and my heart was racing. The dream was too real for a dream. Every time I had them ,it's like I am living through someone else's experience , feeling the same emotions flowing through me. Ever since the accident, I've been having such nightmares all ending the same way, me dying.
Nightmares were my thing and I couldn't fathom less.
In the end, I lost one more good night sleep.
