After a I-didn't-know-long hours, my parents entered the room with all the necessary medications and my discharge papers. Finally, I get to get out of this place, where all was nothing but white. Something about the hospitals made me uncomfortable-- given it had been the smell of the disinfectants or the even the sound of the monitors kept me at edge.
"Lets go, baby", my mom said helping me to get up from my bed.
After changing my clothes and talking to my doctor, we all entered the car. The car ride was unbearably silent. I could see the thickness in the air. My dad was glancing at me from time to time through the mirror and mom was trying to get me engaged in her conversation. By their behaviors, I could easily tell that they knew something that I didn't and I wouldn't be happy if I knew.
I wasn't feeling anything. My mind was still in haze experiencing a cloud of emotions. I sank lower into the seat, looking out of the window.
The day was bright and people were busy setting up their business or driving to their offices. It was 10 in the morning and second day I wasn't attending school. I hadn't spoken to Jordan or Eva. Heck, I didn't knew where my phone was.
The thought of not knowing anything made me pluck my hair out in frustration, but I knew that my parents would definitely talk to me regarding the situation. As time went by, my overdriven mind became tired and I slowly drifted off to sleep.
I could feel myself carried inside the house and my dad put me on the couch. After setting me up and bringing all the things from the car, my mom made her way to kitchen before asking if I was feeling okay to eat scrambled eggs. The good thing was Violet went to school. Though it hurt she wasn't there, but I was more than happy not to see her right now.
My body was tired and drained. Though the coffee and eggs did clear my haze, my body felt like all the bits of energy had been sucked. Suddenly the front door burst open jerking my parents, Aunt Smith entered the living room. Her eyes were frantically searching until they settled on mine. She crossed the living room in blink and hugged me tightly.
"You scared us all Grace.Thank God, are you okay? I can't even imagine the worst condition for you. Jordan was so worried about you.", she said with a concerned tears flowing down her cheeks.
"I am sorry. I won't let it happen again", I said guilty hugging her back.
Even I didn't remember what exactly happened, the tears in mom's and aunt smith's eyes clearly indicates that it was worse . After we all settled in the couch, all were quiet, looking at me like expecting some reaction from me which I didn't give yet.
I turned towards my mom and asked, "Mom, what happened?. I don't remember exactly what happened from yesterday night".
My mom looked at my dad and turned towards me, "We were on our way to grandpa's when Jordan informed that you were unconscious and that he called the paramedics. We rushed to the hospital and by the time we arrived you were still unconscious. Jordan was very shocked, he couldn't tell us what exactly he saw and Violet didn't know anything until paramedics came."
"The last thing I remember was lights out in our street", I said to myself.
"What?", Jordan's mom asked me puzzled.
I was more confused by her reaction. I stared at her blankly thinking what happened yesterday. Dad changed the subject by filling in the details of what happened at the hospital. As I raked my mind tofind the information, a throbbing headache came over. I hissed tightly holding my head in my palms.
"Go take rest honey. Don't overthink", My mom said while pointing towards the stairs.
"Okay", I dismissed myself from the living room.
I could feel the subtle difference in my room. Physically nothing was misplaced but something felt strange. A wave of anxiety rolled over my body with each step towards the bed. My throbbing increased every time I tried to recall the last night events.
When I was close to the bed, I stumbled upon something on the floor.
My phone..
My phone was cracked on the edges as if suffering a high fall. It hadthe same messages from my friends when I opened it. Suddenly the conversation between violet and mom came up. I pushed the thoughts back concentrating on the present looking for anything weird or out of place in my room.
Nothing.
I sunk in to the bed looking at the familiar ceiling. The medication started kicking in as I could feel the heaviness in my eyes but I kept my open waiting for something to pop up my memory. Everything felt strange and my parents were acting so odd. I definitely needed a detailed talk aboutmy hospital visit with my parents. On the verge of sleep I realized there was only one way of knowing what happened..
Jordan..
After few hours, I woke up, ate lunch and slept for few more hours. When I woke up again, it was already 6 in the evening. There was a light knock at my door.
"Come in"
Jordan slowly trudged inside the room.
"Hey"
"Hey, How are you?", he asked while settling next to me on the bed.
"Confused?", I said as a question.
"Its okay. Mom said you didn't remember much", Jordan said looking at me worriedly.
"What happened?", I asked looking at the ceiling.
Jordan suddenly gasped and slowly he lied down mimicking my position and facing the ceiling. There was silence but it was comfortable. By Jordan's breathing I could tell that he was mentally preparing himself to tell me. Even I would have a hard time finding someone unconscious in their room all of a sudden.
"I will tell you but you have to tell me what happened at the school"
The incidents at the school passed a tremor through my body. I turned towards him and mumbled, "Okay".
There goes nothing.
