Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Dead EvenChapter 10: Dead Even

A flash of cold light streaked across, and on Selene's dragon body, a shower of sparks erupted!

Witter wasn't surprised by this. He was well aware of how tough his own dragon scales were, and as a member of the great dragon species, Selene's scales wouldn't be much inferior to his.

Thus, trying to win by injuring each other was proving to be quite difficult!

Thinking this, Witter's elongated dragon body moved with an unexpectedly agile grace, dodging Selene's furious strike!

Possessing the inherited memories of an entire world, even as a newly hatched dragon, Witter possessed remarkable combat skills. He wouldn't choose to engage in a direct confrontation with Selene, who was nearly half a size larger than him, without first gauging her strength.

On the other side, Selene harbored orthodox dragon lineage memories, and apart from basic dragon information and some magical knowledge, all of it pertained to combat!

This was the key reason why the great dragon species became the masters of the skies!

There was a saying among dragons: the best time to hunt a dragon is when it's still in its egg; once hatched, it turns from prey to predator.

Thus, noticing Witter's hit-and-run tactics, she discerned his strategy and sneered.

With a mighty flap of her wings, Selene lifted off the ground effortlessly. Great dragons were immensely strong, and their weight was substantial. The membranous wings on their backs were insufficient to support their massive frames in flight.

Therefore, the flight of great dragons relied on an innate flying magic, with the wings playing only a minor role during flight. Instead, the wings functioned more like limbs, tools for combat and hunting!

So, when Witter attempted to fly using only his membranous wings, Wynterth realized that Witter lacked elemental affinity.

Similarly, Selene had taken note of this!

Faced with her in the air, Witter had only two choices: engage in aerial combat or stay on the ground to conserve energy.

The first option was unwise. Without magical assistance, Witter, relying solely on his wings, would be outmaneuvered in the air, and his wings would become a glaring weakness.

If Witter chose to stay on the ground, he would be at a disadvantage when dealing with aerial assaults.

Selene's golden vertical pupils watched Witter intently from above. What would he choose?

Seeing Selene take flight, Witter quickly realized the implications!

He also understood that orthodox dragon lineage memories must contain combat experiences; otherwise, Selene wouldn't have reacted so swiftly. Aerial combat was his weak point!

So, Witter's choice was... to run!

With powerful limbs, sharp claws, and flexible joints, Witter could run with a sensation akin to gliding just above the ground, sprinting like a silver flash!

Seeing Witter take off, Selene was momentarily stunned, then sneered. Despite Witter's unexpected speed, she thought, how could running compare to flying? How naive!

With a flap of her wings, Selene sped towards Witter, the light elements gathering around her giving her an aura of sanctity. But beneath that sanctity lay a storm of violence!

Witter, sensing Selene's pursuit, suddenly halted. In an instant, he transitioned from rapid movement to complete stillness. The joints of his limbs creaked from the abrupt stop, and his muscles tensed.

Ignoring the discomfort, Witter looked up at Selene, who had just flown above him, her face filled with astonishment. Witter grinned, then unleashed the power he had been gathering in his limbs.

Like an arrow released from a bow, he leaped upwards, surpassing Selene's altitude in mid-air!

Then, spreading his limbs, Witter clung tightly to Selene's body. Both dragons crashed to the ground with a violent collision, sending up a cloud of dust and rocks.

The dull thud made the onlooking dragons wince. Selene, pinned beneath Witter, growled in anger. Her sharp claws lashed out towards Witter's cheeks, but he deflected them with ease.

Feeling the immense force from her claws, Selene's eyes widened. Witter's strength was surprisingly superior to hers! It was hard to believe that such power resided within his slender frame.

Realizing this, Selene began to struggle fiercely. However, in their evenly matched strengths, such a struggle only played into Witter's hands, preventing her from utilizing her aerial advantages.

She had to fly again. With proper preparation, she wouldn't be brought down so easily by Witter.

But Witter wasn't about to give her that chance. Clinging to Selene, he denied her any opportunity to rise, while his own sharp claws continuously struck her body, sparking with each impact.

Seeing this, the other three young dragons were astonished. They had anticipated either a decisive victory by Selene or a hard-fought win by Witter, but never a situation where both were evenly matched, with Witter even seeming to have the upper hand.

Eventually, both dragons, exhausted from their struggle, lay panting on the ground. Witter glared at Selene, frustrated that his plans had been foiled by her tenacity.

Selene, too, was left gasping for breath, her pride dented but her determination unbroken. "I admit I underestimated you," she said with a solemn nod. "I apologize for that. But I will remember this defeat, and next time, I will be the one to win!"

With that, Selene turned to Aure and, after a moment, looked back at Witter before walking deeper into the dragon cave.
