Himo threw himself back to the bed. “My maxed out stats!”

[Not even one survived.]

“This is far from not surviving!” He glared at the numbers. “They’re not even close to the max!”

[The system did say they wouldn’t stay maxed.]

Himo stood up from the bed, prepared himself, and walked out of the room. Followed by Phylia, he showed a grimace as he closed the door. “Now, where is the armory—” His hand froze on the handle. Is someone watching me? He gazed left and right, but he couldn’t see anyone. He gave up on the search. Someone able to hide from him was likely to be stronger, he thought. Even so, he leaned close to Phylia. “Stay on guard,” he whispered, “we’re being followed.”

She nodded. The two walked up to a portal and entered it.

The three teachers, far from his room, looked at each other.

“Did he really just…”

“…notice us?”

They expected some surprises from him, but that was far from their imagination. The elkadian looked at the portal Himo vanished into. “Let’s follow him from farther away…”

They entered the portal and saw where he went next. Using a particular spell, "eylies", they tracked his movements without getting too close. And so, they entered the next portal. And the next. The next. Next.

Before they realized it, they’d walked through thirty portals.

“Where is he going?!” The human teacher widened his eyes.

The angel looked at Himo and Phylia; the two were in front of a group of portals. “He mentioned the armory, right?”

“But to get there, five portals were enough! How can someone get lost when there are signs on each portal?”

“It’s odd, but we’re almost there anyway.” The human teacher sighed. “He just needs to take the portal on the righ—”

Himo walked through the left portal.

-----

They took over fifty portals to reach their destination.

“We’re here!” Himo stretched his arms upward. Phylia glanced back at the portal they came from, then turned to a building in front.

Grand walls of steel held two sword-like pillars. Those pillars crossed each other, shaping an entrance whose top held a sign that announced “Armory” in bold characters.

Followed by the prying teachers, the two walked inside. They stepped on a red carpet, surrounded by a room of steel. Ornamental weapons claimed the walls, showing blades of sharpened gems. At the end of the carpet was the usual reception: a table filled with paperwork handled by a sweet-looking angel girl.

Himo looked around the room. This is a good place. It has a nice atmosphere.

[Since when does the user care about that?]

System, I'm going to get a new weapon. Of course the atmosphere is important!

[No, that makes no sense.]

Himo walked up to the receptionist. “Hello.”

“Hello.” She looked up from her papers. “Only A-class students and higher are allowed in this armory. May I see your badge? I need to verify.”

“Sure.” Himo showed his badge.

“S rank?” She flinched. “Could you be perhaps one of the newly promoted students? ...I see.” She pointed to a door behind her. “In this armory, you can test any weapon in a designed area. Once you find what you want, push the button beside the door: I'll get to you so that you can buy or rent it without others seeing it. Also, please, if you don’t like a weapon, put it where it was.”

“Is this valid?” Himo showed her the ticket given by the headmaster.

Why did the headmaster… She stared at it for a few moments. “With that, you can buy any single weapon you find inside. I wish you’ll find something to your liking.”

“Thank you!” Himo, followed by Phylia, smiled and walked inside.

Stepping on the other side, Himo was assaulted by a war-like atmosphere. An inventory of plain to peculiar weapons leaned on walls. Each screamed their strengths, from the sharpness of the swords to the weight of the hammers.

He glanced around and found a dummy of ice in the middle of the room. Is that the testing area? It reminds me of your sky-weapon shop, System. Himo chuckled.

He grabbed a random sword and slashed the dummy with it. A clean cut divided it into two—the damaged parts liquefied and connected once again, then solidified back to their former state.

This sharpness… Himo looked at the blade of the sword. While it’s not comparable to the scythe, it’s not bad at all.

[Of course. Every weapon in this place is at least of earth quality. Compared to the user-loved sword, “Scrap”, it’s normal that they are outstanding.]

For how long do you intend to call it "scrap"?

[The system is simply stating the truth.]

Himo narrowed his eyes. But, still, earth quality, huh. He smiled. A free earth-quality weapon…

-----

Out of the armory, the teachers had a small problem.

“We need to enter, please let us pass.”

“No.” The receptionist barred their way. “For privacy reasons, only one person at a time can enter in here.”

“Please do an exception. We’re in the middle of an important mission right now.”

“No is no! If you keep insisting, I’ll be forced to call a guard.”

The teachers stiffened. A guard? Even they, nascent soul realm cultivators, would get destroyed by a single guard.

“Wait on a bench.” She sighed and sat back on her seat. “Once the student gets out, I’ll let one of you to enter.”

“That’s useless!” was what they wanted to say, but all of them stood in silence. They looked at each other with trembling lips. Why was their mission already so complicated on the first day?
