“I said yes, and yet… I am still here.” A black haired youth sighed as he walked down the stairs from his house. He had to buy rations for his next month of seclusion. “Was last night’s dream a scam?”
He sighed once more as the sight of people hurrying to work played out in front of him. He began to walk on the sidewalk as his eyes steered to the sky, trying to avoid paying attention to others.
"In a novel, the protagonist would be transmigrated immediately after declaring the desire to live in another world. But why it doesn't seem to work this time?"
It would be a lie to say he had believed something which occurred in a dream, but when nothing happened he couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed anyway.
He considered life in this world boring, lacking a real goal. Every single day would be a repetition of the previous, with little to no changes.
“...I really want to live in a cultivation world.” In his eyes, however, life in a cultivation world was different. Each being in such a world had an aim to strive for.
He would always get lost in his fantasies, picturing how life in such a place would be. There were, however, days where he would be brought back to reality, when he had to go outside and see how most would rush to complete their usual routine.
That sight always reminded him of where he was: a reality he despised.
Whenever he was in front of that view he couldn't wait to return back to his home. In there, he could at least read novels and watch anime. While it wasn’t as good as experiencing it firsthand, it was still better than nothing.
Lost in thought, he kept walking on the sidewalk toward the closest store, but he stopped abruptly. He felt observed. Turning back his gaze, he met the sight of a crowd staring at him from the distance.
“Beware!”
“Run!”
“AAHHH!”
Some started screaming while others covered their children’s eyes with their palms. Few of them had irritating smirks as they pointed toward Shu Himo, gifting him the wish to punch their faces.
What’s going on? He looked around, trying to discover the reason behind their weird behavior.
It was at that moment that he saw it.
An enormous yet fast object just a few meters away from him, threatening to take his life: Truck-kun. Steering off the road, the truck drove toward the sidewalk where he stood.
It was already way too late to avoid it. Anyone would feel despair in front of certain death, but that concept could not be applied to that youth.
It’s truck-kun! Is it going to be my ticket to the next life?
Rather than feeling fear or despair, he felt excited about the upcoming truck. Having read so many novels, he believed himself to be an expert, eager to be reborn into an unknown world. Thinking back to his last dream only fueled such belief even more.
At that moment, the world seemed to slow down all of a sudden, crawling at a snail's pace.
As he had anticipated, the truck was his ticket to reach another world, but instead of obtaining what he desired—like powerful cheats—he was about to feel cheated.
[Shu Himo, 18 years old. You have been chosen as the 347th host of The Bullsh*t System!]
[Will you accept? Yes/no]
Shu Himo felt blessed to be chosen by a system, one of the strongest cheats. The only problem was its name, which made him feel a bit uneasy. In the end, however, he decided to not care too much about it. “Yes!”
[Integrating The Bullsh*t System...]
[Integration completed.]
[The system has been connected to your soul.]
[The first quest will be assigned. Its completion will allow the User to be transported to another world, continuing the user's path with the system. However, were the User to fail the penalty will be death.]
“Huh?” Shu Himo was initially happy while reading the message, but upon reading the last sentence he felt greatly betrayed. A system should be the best cheat, a gamelike program giving all sorts of powers for free… so why did he feel that it was more like a bully instead?
But even then, he just narrowed his eyes slightly. It was still too early to judge it.
[The Quest has been created.]
