Within the Blaz Continent, a few months after the return of Adrian to the Bainzen Capital...
...
Eastern District of the Ranustin Kingdom...
The walls crumbled as a mighty meteor-like object landed, killing everything on its destructive path.
Sieging machines that flung gigantic fireballs were then used to destroy the gates and kill the remaining soldiers that used their own lives to defend the walls. Swords were no match against a brigade of fire mages that could invoke destructive spells from afar.
It had been mind-boggling for all these people as to what is happening...
"Hurry and mount the defenses! Don't let them reach the capital!" the commanded yelled the orders to the remaining people on what was left of the wall as the frontlines charged towards the slowly moving troop of a thousand mages. If they could only close the distance between them and these bastards, it would be all over.
A war with prominent magic users on them had never happened for hundreds of years now, this was definitely a first. It had been a burden to even use the tiniest amount of magic as it was detrimental to the user due to the fact that the world's mana pool was unstable.
But it seems this sudden attack showed a different story... This was the total opposite of it!
Now, they were being bombarded with high-damaging spells that destroyed everything upon impact! This is not something to be categorized as "a tiny amount of magic", these attacks are some of the highest-tiered fire spells!
The attempts of the soldiers were futile. as they were easily burned down without even getting close enough to put up a fight, the number of mages within the enemies were just too much. It had been known back when magic was still the source of strength for the military that a single magi could easily amount the same equal firepower against fifty to a hundred enemies in the battle, as long as there is distance, there is enough time for these magic users to invoke their magic and win the fight before it could even start.
"... Thousand of mages that could use fire spells..." It was a scene that should have been extinct along with the destruction of the planet's magic core. But it seems that the stabilization had been going on smoothly without any other magic users noticing it? The commander could only sigh in confusion... as the entirety of the wall collapsed from the attack... killing every single one of the people that remained to defend.
The melee of the attackers then proceeded to "empty" the corners of this area before they proceeded to raid the capital. The sun sets as the imminent doom of the Ranustin Kingdom... slowly arrived.
***
"My King! Hurry up and escape from here! This battle is already unwinnable... Please, save yourself!" the soldier muttered these last words while groaning in pain from being impaled by a long spear before being incinerated, he had defended his king till his last breath and had done his duty.
King Samson could only kneel in defeat as he had no idea what was happening right now... It was pretty much summed up as "we're being attacked right now", but nothing adds up and made sense. The city was instantly in distraught as every single one of the buildings caught fire... Not even him, the proud Barbarian King of the Shodan Continent could put up a fight against these many magic users.
For him...everything just happened all of a sudden, the attack arrived way too fast... and it came from a place where they had least expected it. Their own neighbors within the Shodan Continent...
The Bainzen Empire...
"This isn't the time to be cowering in defeat my King! We have to hurry and escape!" Claire immediately assisted King Samson that had obviously lost his hope as she carried him towards the escape route of the king's castle. It was their last chance to sneak in an attempt to escape.
The entirety of the capital isn't fully defeated yet, a good amount of soldiers still remained on their side that could put up a fight. It had only been this desolate as it seems due to the fact that a good amount of the enemy mages skipped through the capital and focus fired on the castle.
The fact that the king was still alive brought hope to them... Although what would remain of the kingdom might be left to a minimum, their priority right now is to be able to escape.
The Guardian Knight, Matthew, one of the 'Ten-Man Party' of Feihren back then, had single-handedly fended off the melee of attackers that were trying to pursue within the castle; Some might have sneaked in and had been attacking the regular guards, but he had been trying his best to make sure that none could harm the king.
Backing him up was Magi Zeph, giving him the proper magic-protections against the fire attacks of the enemy. This duo had been defending the castle until the king could escape...
"You should go and help Claire and his Majesty escape!" Matthew yelled towards Zeph, whose trying his best to invoke multiple protective spells that defended him, the castle, and his own body... It was indeed too much to ask for Zeph to be able to hold on for so long...
"...Please... It would be better for you to help them escape than dying here..." Matthew pleaded, as he kept chopping down the enemies while trying his best to avoid the fiery attacks, as to reduce the chances of the barrier from breaking.
"...But, you'd definitely not make it out from all of this al..." Zeph couldn't mutter the painful words as Matthew interjected.
"No buts! This is nothing! All our effort up to now would be futile if both of us were just gonna die!"
It was a painful decision... yet, Matthew was right... The number of mages within the kingdom that could assist the king in against magic attacks were few to none... and it would not end up well if King Samson could not escape successfully...
The tethered stream of mana that strengthened the magic protection weakened on Matthew's side as Zeph sprinted towards the castle's entrance...
"Don't die until we could return!..." Zeph yelled towards Matthew as tears rolled from his eyes...
"I'll try my best not to!" Matthew replied as he desperately smiled...
These are nothing but exchanging empty words... Both of them knew the truth as to what would happen... Yet it would be better for their own minds and hearts to think otherwise... even for the last time. The castle doors shut tight as the strength of the castle's barrier increased...
"You bastards better hurry up... Don't attack me one by one, give me your best shot!" Matthew bravely yelled as he continued fending off the enemies...
Outnumbered is an exaggeration, he was the last remaining soldier alive outside the castle at the moment...
