The room trembled to its foundations as the monk before them continued to disintegrate into a fever dream of screaming faces. Everywhere around the group, black shadows crawled from the bodies of the clergy, ready to strike. Silarias stood with his fists clenched, but the two brothers he had just freed remained remarkably calm despite the chaos.
"Our weapons are here," the oldest, Izamaro, began. He pointed to a corner where metal glinted beneath the blood. "My shoes and his..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Silarias was already in motion. The solar energy in his veins tolerated no delay. In the middle of the vaulted room stood a massive iron rock that seemed to consist of several layers of stone, like a heavy, angular totem pole. The monstrosity blocked the only way out, and Silarias tensed his muscles to pulverize the blockage with brute force.
Then he felt a hand on his shoulder. The youngest brother, Balamore, who, despite being sixteen, was already a bear of a boy, stepped forward. He walked with a heavy, calm stride toward the iron rock and placed his hand on the cold metal.
"Finally," Balamore whispered with a voice that came from deep within his chest, a low rumble that vibrated through the floorboards. "Together again."
Atop the rock, a crystal head began to glow with a bright, bluish light that activated the runes in the iron. With an effortless movement, Balamore lifted the gigantic rock and placed it on his shoulder as if it were weightless. Izamaro rushed to the corner of the room and grabbed his equipment.
"I am Izamaro," the eldest said as he, lightning fast, slid the Quetzal Feather Boots over his feet and pulled the laces tight. "And this is my brother, Balamore. We are grateful for the help, stranger."
As soon as the feathers on the boots touched Izamaro's skin, they began to vibrate, leaving a silver trail with every small movement of his feet.
Silarias stared at the footwear with wide eyes. "Quetzal Feather Boots," he muttered, as the heat of battle briefly faded into the background. "This isn't from here, but it belongs to one of you, doesn't it?"
He was given no time for an answer. A series of deafening explosions above them caused the ceiling to crack. The screaming of the droids and the noise of breaking steel pierced through the cracks of the cellar.
Outside, atop the shell of the turtle, hell had broken loose in all its intensity. While Silarias reunited the brothers with their power inside, the other Nobodies fought against a black tidal wave. The droids moved with mechanical precision, their red eyes flashing in the darkness, while Nyx and Apollo fought off one attack after another in a rain of sparks and fire. The temple had turned into a smoking battlefield, where the golden splendor was slowly being consumed by the smoke of approaching doom.
Cilla stepped forward and spread her hands like a conductor of a deadly spring. "Look at this rot," she hissed to herself, her eyes reflecting the crimson glow of the enemy sensors. "Nature will reclaim what you defiled." With a soft, hissing sound, thousands of glowing flower petals and vines exploded from her palms. They danced through the air like a swarm of angry fireflies, but at every touch with a droid, the tenderness turned into pure destruction. The flora ate through the cold metal like a hungry organism, with thorny roots boring into mechanical joints and causing the droids to burst open from within in a cloud of pollen and scrap metal.
Nicola moved with an icy and loyal calm, flanked by his companion Blitz. "Keep the line steady," Nicola commanded, his voice cutting through the mechanical din. "We do not yield an inch of this ground." While he manipulated the Ether into razor sharp paths of energy, Blitz shot through the enemy lines like a bolt of lightning. Nicola himself moved in perfect harmony with his ether powers, cutting the droids in half with a precision that the monks' sensors could not keep up with, leaving only a trail of sizzling blue ozone.
Miki, the descendant of the fire spirit, unleashed the true heat of her bloodline. She did not strike the earth to move stones, but to unleash an inferno. "Hey, stupid metal faces, look over here!" she yelled, puffing out her chest as white hot flames began to lick around her pigtails. "You think your dumb shields can take my super heat? Watch this, I am gonna melt you into a giant puddle of goo!" With a fierce, childish scream, an absolute inferno burst from her tiny fists, causing the heavy stones of the temple to turn into bright orange, bubbling lava. The droids that tried to approach her turned into glowing, liquid masses before they could even step forward. Beside her stood Jane as an anchor, channeling Miki's wild heat and stabilizing the atmospheric pressure around them into an invisible shield.
Aurelius stood there as an unwavering guardian, shrouded in the blinding glow of his photon powers. "Let there be order," Aurelius intoned, his voice echoing with a divine resonance that seemed to quiet the surrounding noise. "Darkness cannot exist where the light commands." The light radiating from him was so intense that the droids literally became blind, and their internal systems burned out due to the pure light particles penetrating their armor. He was a beacon of order in the total chaos of the battlefield.
Ren moved with macabre elegance, utilizing his nature as a half straw being. With his Iron Straw technique, he hardened his body into indestructible iron at the moment of impact. "Catch me if you can, metal dummies!" Ren laughed, a slightly high pitched but confident cheer as he zipped past a row of droids. "My straw is harder than your silly armor! Snippy snap, time to go to the scrap heap!" He wielded his powers like a playground game turned lethal, mowing down the droids with iron straw sickles. Lyn supported him with the brute force of her hammer; she forged the battle on the spot with her Forge techniques, pulverizing droids with offensive strikes and simply knocking the enemy's projectiles out of the air with defensive swings, like glowing iron on an anvil.
Nyx glided through the shadows as the embodiment of the moon, her presence causing the temperature on the square to drop far below freezing. "Freeze in the dark where you belong," she murmured, her voice a cold wind that crystallized the air. Apollo, meanwhile, flashed across the battlefield as a solar speedster, a golden streak moving so fast he seemed to be in multiple places at once, taking out enemies with the explosive heat of the midday sun. The square was a whirlwind of elemental violence, where the Nobodies aimed to wipe away the temple's corrupt technology with fire, ice, light, and iron.
The bodies of the fallen monks lay like twisted carcasses scattered across the turtle's golden shield, while the black oil seeped into the cracks of the armor. The silence that followed was heavy and suffocating until a sinister laughter tore the air open like a blunt knife through parchment. It was a sound so loud and icy that it made the Nobodies' eardrums ring and the hairs on their necks stand up. Before their eyes, a gruesome transformation began that defied all logic. The loose limbs, the severed mechanical hands, and the broken masks lying on the ground began to vibrate with an unnatural, feverish energy.
With a sickening, scraping sound of metal on stone, the remains slid toward the only remaining torso. The black cloaks flowed together like living shadows, and the metal melted into a gigantic monstrosity of black sludge and pulsing, glowing technology. The creature rose from the remains, with copper wires dancing like nerves between the bones and gears.
When the monster dislocated its jaw and opened its mouth, no single voice came out, but the raw, all blinding cacophony of thousands of people laughing and crying at the same time. It was a choir of pure madness, of souls trapped in the machine, that made the Nobodies' stomachs turn. With a brute, explosive force, the monster stomped on the shield, causing the giant turtle beneath them to groan and stagger deep in its joints. The shockwave was so intense that the front group, Miki, Aurelius, and Jane, flew through the air like ragdolls. They were caught with a dull thud by those standing behind them, the impact squeezing the breath from their bodies and making them slide backward for meters over the mirror smooth gold.
A moment of deathly desperation fell over the square. The Nobodies looked at each other with pale faces and trembling hands as they gripped their weapons with a desperate hold. No one knew what to do against this impossible symbol of corruption that towered before them like a mountain of death and oil. Even the ancient turtle under their feet began to stomp restlessly, turning its massive head with a look of pure confusion and primal fear toward the dark, smoking exit of the temple.
Suddenly, a lion's roar echoed from the depths of that corridor, making the world stand still. It was not an animal sound, but a sonic explosion of pure authority that simply crushed the laughter of the thousand souls. The vibration was so powerful that the stone of the temple gate began to crack and split. And then it became terrifyingly silent. Only the rhythmic, thumping sound of heavy footsteps coming closer and closer broke the void, together with the ominous, agonizingly slow sound of something hard and monumental being dragged across the ground with a raw, metallic scratching.
The heavy footsteps echoed in the throat of the temple like the heartbeat of an approaching god. The Nobodies held their breath as the silhouettes in the deep darkness of the gate slowly took shape. The terrifying dragging sound stopped, and three figures stepped into the flickering light of the temple fires.
Everyone froze. Beside Silarias stood two impressive figures shrouded in full ceremonial regalia. The older brother, Izamaro, looked razor sharp and agile, his body covered with jaguar skins and heavy bead necklaces that jingled with every movement. On his feet shone the Quetzal Feather Boots, whose feathers vibrated softly, as if wanting to catch the wind. Beside him stood Balamore, who, despite his young age, rose from the shadows like an enormous bear. He was bulkier, his muscles tensed under the skin, which was likewise covered with the hides of predators.
The gigantic monstrosity of black sludge and technology began to scream, a cacophony of thousands of voices turning into a mechanical shriek. Silarias and the brothers walked unperturbed until they stood nose to nose with the monstrous creation. The heat of the sun and the scent of ancient jungle magic collided head on with the stench of oil and rust.
Balamore set the massive iron object down with a dull thud, making the turtle beneath them tremble. Izamaro looked at Silarias for a moment with a gaze full of respect and then addressed his brother.
"We thank this god here for his help," Izamaro spoke with a voice that cut across the square. "We thank our god for what we have. But little brother..." A fierce smile appeared on his face. "I say mambo 6."
Before the Nobodies or the droids could even react, Izamaro began to move. It was no ordinary attack, but a ritual battle dance. He leapt and spun in a fluid rhythm, with the feathers on his boots drawing silver flashes through the air as a greeting to death itself.
Miki, Aurelius, Nyx, and the rest of the group looked at each other with open mouths. The confusion on their faces was complete as the air between the brothers and the monstrosity began to crackle with a regained ancient power. The silence before the explosion had fallen, and no one knew what this "mambo 6" would bring about.
